English week 5. Five-page Music essay

My Favourite type(s) of Music (Five page essay)

Introduction

In this essay I go over my favourite type of music, namely, Classical music. There are several reasons I like this type of music and that is what I will be going into this essay. The essay comprises of several different parts, mainly describing Classical music. This includes why I like classical music, and some historical features, such as some famous pieces. But the essay does include a few other favourite music types and songs.

Main body

To start off, I think that Classical music is one of my favourite types of music, mainly because of it’s calm and soothing flow. Classical music can be used to study, to relax, to read and even to sleep! I personally use Classical music while I am doing my math, as I find that I can concentrate better while listening. As I have already said, Classical music has some attractive attributes, as it’s soothing flow can be very calming and relaxing. But on the other side, Classical music can energise you to actually play musical instruments, the changing melodies can make you active and ready.

Classical music is also headed by some of the most famous musical artists that have ever lived! People such as Mozart, Bach, Chopin and Beethoven are known worldwide and even two hundred years after their deaths, their works and legacies live on. Classical music reached a peak in the 18th and early 19th centuries, which was when most of the mentioned composers lived. This time was like a “Golden Age”, and although many great Classical pieces have been created since then, the most famous ones still date back to those centuries.

Also, the fact that Classical music was headed by these famous people makes it even more appealing to me, as the music offers rich history, with the bonus of having excellent musical qualities.

These are a few famous pieces that I enjoy listening to.

“The Well-Tempered Clavier”

This beautiful piano piece was written by the famous Johann Sebastien Bach. The piece follows a rhythmic style at the beginning, with a famous tune being played over and over until the next part. The piece was written in 1722 and is still famous to this day.

“Moonlight Sonata No. 14”

This exquisite piece of piano music, written by Ludwig Van Beethoven, is famous for the unusual slow and gentle flow that characterise this piece. The piece was written in 1801, making it over two hundred years old.

“Für Elise”

This tune, written and played on the piano by Ludwig Van Beethoven, is extremely famous. Although not a long piece, the starting tune is probably Beethoven’s most famous work, as it is known worldwide. It is also one of the most famous pieces of Classical music in the world.

“Eine kleine Nachtmusik”

This epic composition written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is probably the latter’s most famous work. Usually composed in an ensemble of different musical instruments, this serenade is Incredibly famous. Known for the piece’s lively and joyful flow, having some great melodies.

“Rondo Alla Turca”

This short and lively piano sonata, written by Wolfgang |Amadeus Mozart, is very famous and is one of Mozart’s most well known piano pieces. The “Turkish March” as it is sometimes referred to, has an exquisite touch of genius, characterised by the lively melodies that make up this sonata.

Other types of music I like.

Having said quite a bit about Classical music, there are two other types of music that I like, along with a couple of songs that I find great. Background music is also good and I really like a subset of that called Electronic. Both of those are examples of types of music that I really like listening to. All of those come next to Classical music in the favourites list. Background music is great as it is very motivational and I use it a lot, especially when I am studying. Electronic is also excellent music, having great beat, making you want to dance.

But there is one more part to music, which is probably more important than the others I have discussed. Although not classified as a genre of music, worship songs are, I feel, very important. When we (meaning my family) go to Church, we also worship God. And this includes singing worship songs written to worship God. One of my all-time favourite worship song is “In Christ Alone”, which I really like singing.

I also like the song “It started out as a feeling” which I first heard when I first watched the Narnia movie “Prince Caspian”, which was quite a while ago, while I still lived in Africa. At that time I was still small and I did not listen to music much, so hearing that song in a children’s movie definitely struck me, and I kept the tune in my memory. Even now when I’m older, I still remember the tune from that song, making it a special favourite.

To answer the essay question and conclude the essay, I would say my favourite music is Classical music, followed by Background music, of which I like Electronic. All of these types are very satisfying to listen to, and I really enjoy them.

Conclusion

To summarise, this essay was on my favourite type of music. I actually have quite A few favourite music types, so I started with Classical music, this being the main topic of the essay. First I went into why I like Classical music, then I went on to describe some historical aspects of this type of music. Then I explained how the historical aspects make Classical music even more appealing to me. Then I listed a few famous pieces by famous composers. After this, I went into other types of Music I enjoy listening to, which are some types of Background music.

I also listed two songs that I like. I then concluded that there are quite a few different music types I like.

I hope you enjoyed!

Lesson 21. Essay: My Favourite Music

My favourite type of music

Introduction

This essay will be on my favourite type of music and a lot of other information rotating around that subject. I play the recorder and I naturally love music. I think my favourite would be classical music, as the serenity and the general atmosphere created by it makes it unique. Also, classical music was headed by some of the most famous musical artists, including Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and many others.

Classical music can be great relaxing music, as well as great study music. When you listen to Classical music it can really take you to another world, where you can dream and disconnect with the world around you. This genre of music has also dominated much of the early musical world and is probably among the most famous music types.

Some of the most well-known classical pieces include:

Moonlight Sonata, (No. 14) by Ludwig van Beethoven

Für Elise, by Ludwig van Beethoven

Rondo Alla Turca by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Eine kleine Nachtmusik by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach

These are just a few of the hundreds of pieces compiled by these famous artists. From 1750 to 1820, Classical music became more prominent, this time length usually being referred to as “The Classical Period”. I would say that my favourite piece would be “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” by Mozart and I would also say that Mozart is my favourite artist.

Other types of music that I like include background music genres such as Ambient and Electric both of which I really like, as they have more beat and tempo in the music. But I have not really explored too many types of music so I do not know that many different genres.

Conclusion

To summarise, my favourite type of music is classical, because of the serenity and the calming pleasure I enjoy while listening to it. Some famous artists are Beethoven, Mozart and Bach, all three having left behind a great legacy, even two hundred years after their deaths. But I also like Background music like Ambient and Electric. That concludes my essay on music.

Lesson 20. Essay: A Bad Day

A bad day I experienced

Introduction

This essay will be on a bad day I had, how I reacted and what I could have done better. That day was in fact a lesson for me and it shows how you should take care and listen to your elders. This shows a time when I did neither and so it had its consequences. So, the fact is, is that that day resulted in a bad one for me, because it was my own fault.

Note: I cannot remember the date, so please bear with me.

It happened in 2012, when I was six years old and our family had gone to Switzerland for my brother who was born that year. For some background, we were living in Africa on the mission field and as I said, were only in Switzerland, because my brother was due. Anyway, some time after he was born, we went one day to visit some friends and they had a large tree in their garden. Well, I was a bit of a climber then, so I quickly made it my goal to climb up the tree. While I was up there, my dad told me to come down and then the adults went inside the house. I did not obey my father, and stayed in the tree.

I cannot quite remember how, but that I was not careful was evident, for all at once I felt myself falling out of the tree and landing on the ground with a loud thump. I started screaming as pain shot up my shoulder and my parents quickly hurried me to the hospital. We soon found out I had broken my right collar-bone and I had to wear a sling for a few weeks after. I think I reacted as any six-year-old might react, with crying. I honestly can’t remember everything, apart that I did cry a lot. But I think I must have just been in an overall state of shock and misery for some time.

Looking back there were some things I could have done to avoid the unfortunate accident I led myself into. Firstly, I think I could have just avoided climbing the tree in the first place and secondly I should have immediately come down from the tree when my dad told me to. I think I should have taken some more care, for I was somewhat too little to understand the danger of being in a tree. As a word of warning, as I found out the hard way, it is always a mistake to disobey your parents. In the fourth commandment in the Bible it says, “honour your mother and father” and by honouring them the verse means obeying them.

But I will not go on about it too much, as that day is over and there is nothing I can do to undo the past. I should just look at it as a lesson to obey your parents and be careful.

Lesson 19. Essay: My Homeschool

My Homeschool

Introduction

In this essay I go over my homeschooling experience so far. The essay is made up of an Introduction, (which you are now reading) three body paragraphs and then a conclusion.

I have been homeschooled for as long as I can remember, as this was a decision made by my parents before they got married. Let me explain a few parts of my background and the life of my parents. My name is Samuel, I am half British and half Swiss and live in Manchester, England. My mum grew up in a Christian family in Switzerland. My dad was born in England and became a Christian a bit later on. Both he and my mum, although they had never seen or met each other, had the same calling, which was to go to the mission field in west Africa

When my parents met, my Dad was (and still is) strongly pro-homeschool. When he married my mum and had me and my siblings, homeschooling began. I really like being homeschooled, as the flexibility compared to state school is amazing. I can easily set school goals and most of the time I have no problem reaching those goals. My main subjects at the moment are, Maths, English, History, Science and French. I would probably say Maths and History are my favourites, although I still like the other subjects. The Ron Paul Curriculum is a big part of my homeschool, as I do English, History and Science on there.

I think that homeschooling is very important and that it is much better than ordinary school for several different reasons. I think that some of the things they teach at school are just lies. For example,  the big bang theory and evolution, which leads children away from the biblical truth of God’s creation. I also highly recommend the Ron Paul curriculum for homeschooling, as it is designed in many ways to fit my schooling needs.

Conclusion

To conclude, lets summarise a few important points from the essay. The essay was on my homeschooling experience so far. I first went into some background, explaining where it all started and then I moved on to describe the subjects that I am learning. I then explained why I find homeschooling important and why I think state schools aren’t that great, as they lead you away from the biblical truth.

Lesson 18. One Paragraph: When I helped my friend

When I helped my friend

People generally call me helpful, they say that I ask if they need help and I do think that is true. From this information, I think I can deduct that I am a helpful person. Anyway, I cannot exactly recall anything huge I ever did, so I will just take one of the most recent things that happened. A few months ago, myself, my mum and siblings went on holiday to Switzerland. My mum is from there and her home-church organises a kids-camp in the Alps every year. This was the first year for me as leader, as the other years I had been a participant and so I had to help all week with the different games and activities for the kids. This is not technically a time I helped ‘a friend’ yet I did help all the other leaders, whom I would count as friends.

Note. I wrote this essay a few months ago

Lesson 17. One Paragraph: My Best Birthday present

My best birthday present

This is a hard question, as I have had some great birthday presents in my fourteen birthdays so far. But there is one that stands out as a great present. This was a lego Star Wars set (set number 75103) that I got for my 10th birthday four years ago. At the time, I knew next to nothing about Star Wars, but when I went to the local toy shop and saw this set, I really wanted to get it. Since then I have watched all of the Star Wars movies and this set is still my favourite lego set I have.

Lesson 16. One Paragraph: My Favourite Colour

Here is my short one-paragraph on my favourite colour.

My favourite colour, right off the top, would be black. I am not trying to sound dark or anything, it’s just that I really like black. Aside from it’s eerie dark side, Black is still very important in many Items and parts that we buy in today’s world. Black can also have great aesthetic qualities when compared with another colour. Black and white clothes for example, look very professional. But even just black items in general, such as black shoes are items I like.
